New things to do
Right now, before you even scroll down, click on this link and buy tickets to the Ghostlight Theater Company’s production of “City of Angels”. I’ve been lucky enough to sneak into a few of the rhersals and catch some quick snaps and the show is great. Lancaster could use an alternative theater and this first Tony Award winning musical from Ghostlight portends great things.
For now, enjoy a few images (click here and here to see my complete rehearsal shot galleries) from the rehearsals but do pick up some tickets for “City of Angel’s” running all this month and early August.
The good, and the bad and ugly
Shooting the Obama rally was “stressful” to say the least. I hope, for his sake, that his campaign is better run and staffed than what I saw. It was a wonderful opportunity to shoot a presidential candidate’s rally and really brought home how needlessly difficult my job can be sometimes. I’ll stick to the local folks thank you.
So what was the “bad and ugly” part. The good part, my long-time friend Michael Manring was in Reading playing his almost annual gig at the Berks County Jazz Festival last night. Seeing Michael is always wonderful and hearing him play, always inspiring. For more notes on this show visit the set page here:
In the meantime, here are some of my favorites…
So the local Reading television station visited the soundcheck to do the weather over the top of Michael and David playing and pump the show (and the festival) a bit. Here’s a couple of views of that.
Now that’s the rock god I’ve known for so long.

As I said, go check out the whole set.
Thinking fast enough?
Apple announced that iTunes had become the number 2 music retailer in the U.S., behind only Wal-Mart.
“We’d like to thank the over 50 million music lovers who have helped the iTunes Store reach this incredible milestone,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We continue to add great new features like iTunes Movie Rentals to give our customers even more reason to love iTunes.”
The rankings are based on NPD Group’s MusicWatch data. iTunes has sold over four billion songs, with 20 million songs sold on Christmas Day 2007 alone. iTunes has overtaken Best Buy which previously occupied the #2 spot.
Keep in mind what a change this is. The second largest seller of music in this country is a computer company. A company that many people refer to as still having an insignificant market share. My purpose here is not blowing them up as a computer seller my point here is to highlight how much this entire market has changed in a very short time and what an different direction it went. The markets are changing much faster than the brick and mortar stores and most hardware makers are.
Thinking ahead of your customers means you’re ahead of the market, considerably. Thinking in time with the market means you’re, at best, a little behind. Thinking that what worked last year will work this year and even result increases over last year is dangerous, at best.
New gallery work
Music has always been my passion. The sad part is, I have no talent for it whatsoever. So I’ve always been involved with music in one way or another. It’s one reason I love to shoot musicians playing. It combines something I am very good at and love doing (photography) with something I also love but am terrible at (playing music).
Here are some images from March of this year. My friend, Michael Manring, plays in this part of the country about that time every year. He was kind enough to let me take some shots during the sound check and the performance.
And if you’re not familiar with Michael’s work, check it out. Chances are good at some point in your life you’ve heard him, you just didn’t know it. His work is featured all over the place, he’s played with a wide range of other musicians and bands and he is a master of his instrument in no uncertain terms. You can hear samples of his work at his website and buy his CDs there as well.
Enjoy!
