Straight from the horse’s mouth
While I was downtown shooting this afternoon

I ran into this guy

If there is anything better than our Lancaster Mounted Patrol Unit I don’t know what it is. As a homeowner in downtown and someone whose work has them constantly on foot in the city, I love seeing these guys on patrol.

Did you know that the unit’s cost are almost entirely supported by donations?
I’m a huge fan. If one can be at least. I think they are exactly the type of, dare I say, alternative law enforcement and more importantly, crime prevention, we need downtown.

Something for everyone
Recent work has been all over the place. Here’s a sampling…
This shot of Lancaster just after sunset from high atop the Prince Street Garage is for the continuing MOOSE project for the City of Lancaster.

The shot below, of the F&M Womens Field Hocket Team is also for MOOSE…

Are you a music lover? Well, if you are and your tastes are as bizarre as mine, you might enjoy some old Polaroids I’ve scanned and posted to a new gallery. Below are two selections from that Gallery, this one is Matthew Sweet.

And then another music shot, not a Polaroid. This one is taken from some shots of Tool during their Undertow tour shot on 120 film with a YashicaMat twins lens reflex camera.

And then from this past weekend, Ottmar Liebert and his ensemble, Luna Negra taken at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg.

And then this past Sunday, more work for MOOSE and the James Street Improvement District, the Italian Festival at Rosa Rosa Restorante on Harrisburg Pike…

Real estate

This year’s Fulton Award Winning home from the 2007 Lancaster Parade of Homes. Built by Costello Builders in Bent Creek.
I’ve just sent an offer to local Realtors to shoot images for their listings. I have no idea where this will go. The few Realtors that I’ve spoken with about the plan tell me it’s an excellent idea and from my own extensive research, it’s a market that could really use a serious level of professionalism (photographically speaking).
For a number of reasons I’ve spent a lot of time on various real estate sites and I’m appalled, there’s no other word for it, at the mediocre or non-existent images that some Realtors have connected to their listings. To me, this is crazy. Especially in a market which, nationally, is getting tougher and tougher, to not spend a minimal amount of money to image your listing professionally is reckless.
Here’s one comparison. Go to eBay. Check out some of the listings for, well, most anything. You’ll find the majority of items, especially higher ticket items have at least some images attached to them and many of the auctions have a complete set of very nice images to help sell the item. Yet, when some Realtors list a home, selling in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, there’s maybe one or a handfull of bad images. Yes, there are exceptions. But they are very few.
Don’t believe me?
Visit www.realtor.com and plug-in your local zip code and see how many are “showcased” with multiple images and see how many have one image and how many, most of them, have none at all.
Then, visit this gallery. It’s a collection of work I’ve done for WeeBee Audio/Video. I think that bringing this type of imagery to home sales is going to make any potential buyer or seller more interested in the listings.
If you’re a Realtor, drop me a line, let’s talk about how I can make your homes more appealing.
Getting small
Every once in a while I leave my office and visit the wilds of my own backyard. From the backyard earlier today…
New things
So many new things.
I’m really proud to be doing some work for the James Street Investment District. It involves an extension of the work I’ve done for MOOSE (that’s the Mayor’s Office Of Special Events for those of you keeping score at home). You may see out and about in Lancaster’s social centers trying to capture another part of downtown life. It’s a project with a lot of challenges and those challenges translate to opportunities for unique and cool images. The JSID gallery is here. There’s not a lot of material there as of this post but there will be soon.

And speaking of MOOSE, there is a lot of new images in their gallery. Some fun stuff I shot yesterday morning at sunrise as well as some fun stuff of Eileen Ivers during her sound check before her concert at Long’s Park. |

If you missed First Friday this month, be bummed. It was a great First Night and I feel like as though more and more people are making First Night part of the their regular outings.
I’ve added a few hundred older watch shotsto the Time gallery on Flickr. And yes, there are lot more hiding in the archives. I just need to find the time to add them (add in rimshot sample here). Here are couple of pretty straightforward that weren’t part of an essay but rather more illustrative work done for the US Distributor of these watches.
Much more coming very soon. I’m looking forward to adding a few new projects to schedule and filling the galleries what I hope are interesting images.
